This herb is distributed and found all over the world. In Tetiaroa it grows on almost all the motu and is abundant around lakes. It can grow up to 1.5 m (5 ft) long and indicates marshy areas. It was once used by Polynesians to find fresh water. On other Pacific islands it is used to make paper.
