These rays can be up to 100 cm in width. It is intertidal and found in water 200 m from the beach, and maybe even more. It usually rests on sandy bottoms adjacent to reefs. It feeds on crustaceans and probably small fish. The Tahitian stingray may have a preference for shrimp as it is often captured by shrimp trawlers. It rests on sand for much of the day. Occasionally they form large feeding aggregations at night. It is Ovoviviparous.
