About this species

A pale, cylindrical body carries dark bars or blotches and blue-green reflections along the back. The tail is forked and marked with darker patches; two small dark marks on the snout are another useful feature.

It rests on sand or coral surfaces, ready to seize small fish and shrimp. The attack is fast and forceful. The regional guide records it in the Society Islands, Marquesas and Gambier Islands, at depths of roughly 2–100 m.
