About this species

Body colour ranges from grey-green to brown. The forehead horn generally stops short of the tip of the snout. Blue lips and blue tail-base spines add colour, while adults develop a squared-off tail with a filament at each end.

It occurs alone or in small groups in exposed, coral-rich lagoon and outer-reef habitats. Leafy algae, particularly Sargassum, are important food. The regional guide reports a broad depth range, from about 1 to 180 m.

Ume primarily eat leafy algae.
