About this species

This common moray occupies the lagoon and outer reef slope, with records to about 50 m. It is mainly nocturnal, leaving its hiding place when prey is within reach. Fish, crabs and cephalopods, including octopuses and squid, make up its meals.

The regional guide identifies it as a frequent carrier of ciguatera toxins.

It is a rather nocturnal animal that will exit its hideout to chase interesting prey.
