About this species

Seven or eight narrow brown lines cross a pale grey-violet to brownish body from the snout to the tail base. The fins are translucent. In juveniles, a dark spot at the tail base sits within a golden-yellow area; in adults, that region becomes dark.

Small groups hide among coral branches in calm, clear lagoon water and sheltered reefs. They eat little fish, worms and other invertebrates.
