A pale, speckled moray that can follow its prey right to the water’s edge.

About this species

A white body dusted with grey-violet markings and a star-like mark around the eye help distinguish this moray. It lives in shallow lagoons, sheltered reef areas and reef flats, and can reach about 1.2 m.

Fish, crustaceans and other animals living on the bottom make up its diet. At high tide, a moray hunting beside the beach may briefly propel its whole body out of the water to catch prey.
