About this species

The surge damselfish favours turbulent lagoon areas where waves wash over the reef. Its yellow body is crossed by a strong blue stripe. At night it can darken, helping it blend into the surroundings.

Small groups stay near shelter. Individuals defend their feeding patches and may chase other fish away. Algae and small crustaceans both feature in their diet.
