About this species
Nerita plicata has a cream-coloured spiral shell marked with ridges and sometimes dark spots. Adults rarely exceed about 3 cm. The Society’s guide associates it with hard coastal surfaces and records a depth range from the shore to roughly 7 m.
Maoa is traditionally eaten in Polynesia; the guide records both raw and cooked preparations.
