About this species

This small shrub tolerates salt and nutrient-poor ground. The guide compares it with miki miki (Pemphis acidula), describing its flowers as more delicate. It occurs beside the water, on beaches, around hoa, and on the exposed ocean side of the atoll.

The source records bark made into a paste for waterproofing canoes, and wood carved into hooks and small objects. It also describes green leaves used in traditional baths for skin complaints.
